Zur Person

Rasmus Kaessmann fell for his camera while travelling through East Africa. His quest for a good picture led him through rainforests, dusty third-world capitals and on top of Africa's highest peaks.
Through the years both his fields of work and his style have remained eclectic but with a unique flavour. Technically a picture should be one single moment frozen in time, but his work is all about movements and dynamics.
Little surprise that much of his photography happens outdoors, be it for sports, advertising, portraits or editorial features. But no matter the bright and open sky, his images remain that of an artist and an artisan. Every move, every ray of light is part of the plan. He takes his time to create this one moment that seems spontaneous but unsettlingly flawless.
Despite his love for the mountains and the wide sky, he is based in Berlin. The city, an island of anarchy in the middle of a well-groomed country, provides him with his daily dose of inspiration. It's the mix of people that fascinates him; being part of it all and then retreating into the quiet of his family life.
He still enjoys working on non-commercial projects on the side. One of the most memorable experiences so far has been a production for "Rütli-Wear", a different kind fashion label run by students of what some media dubbed "Germany's worst school". His Models - 22 "uneducable" students from one of Berlin's poorest neighbourhoods - took him by surprise. Their energy and commitment were amazing.
If he's sick of the big city and the travelling, he remembers his Swedish roots, packs his loved-ones and holes up in the loneliness of Stockholm's Skargard islands.
